Has there been a better year for any team on the FIVB World Tour? Olympic champions Laura Ludwig and Kira Walkenhorst have swept all before them on their way to glory in 2016.

The Rio triumph was their sixth FIVB gold of the campaign and seventh in total following their victory at the European Championships.

Their medal collection includes two Swatch Major Series titles – the smart Major Hamburg and the A1 Major Klagenfurt.

Runners-up in the Swatch World Tour Finals in Fort Lauderdale 12 months ago, can the German girls go one better and seal an incredible season with yet another gold?
