2015/16 FIVB World Tour ranking points: 4,400 – qualified as wildcards

2016 medals: 2 (Two bronze)

Alberta’s finest, Ben Saxton and Chaim Schalk timed their form to perfection before the Olympics, winning two bronze medals at two of the past three Swatch Major Series events.

After reaching the quarterfinals at the Olsztyn Grand Slam in June the Canadians finished third at the Poreč Major before repeating the feat in the A1 Major Klagenfurt.

Last year they bravely bowed out at the Swatch World Tour Finals at Fort Lauderdale in the Pool Play but this year, on home sand, they will have the added bonus of the support of the avid Canadian beach volleyball fans.

Fun fact! Volleyball runs in both families. Ben’s father and mother both represented Canada, while Chaim’s four brothers also play the sport.

Watch Ben and Chaim in action in this jaw-dropping rally at the A1 Major Klagenfurt last month.
