Our video on the biggest talking point of the #TorontoFinals
The first game of the #TorontoFinals will be one of the single-biggest matches in beach volleyball country quota history as Sarah Pavan and Heather Bansley go head-to-head on Center Court at Polson Pier for a place in the main draw tomorrow.
In what promises to be a mouthwatering blink-and-you’ll-miss-it encounter, the Canadian Olympic pair face each other at Polson Pier just weeks after they announced their shock split.
And the duo, who reached the quarterfinals in Rio, and won silver together as recently as the Poreč Major in June, sat down to discuss their reasons to go separate ways in a revealing interview with beach volleyball legends Dain Blanton and Mark Heese.
Pavan explains that an injury sustained in Rio this year was a big part of why their partnership came to an end before the Swatch World Tour Finals on their home sand.
“The injury definitely accelerated things,” Sarah said. “But at the end of the day the big reason for me to go our separate ways was that we were not winning.”
Heather said: “I want to win and fight for every point on the court – but could we have improved as a team? Maybe, but we always played as a team and these things happen.”
It’s a must-see interview with both Canadian heroes – and you can watch it below courtesy of our official YouTube channel.
If you can't get to Polson Pier for the big game on Tuesday, all the action will be streamed live on our website! See you tomorrow!
