Brandie Wilkerson is totally pumped now the pressure is off following Tuesday’s dramatic country quota victory.

And boy is it showing as together with new partner Heather Bansley the Canadian heroes secured their first main draw win by defeating Italians Menegatti/Giombini on Center Court.

“Coming from the highest level of pressure – a country quota match at home as a new team – everything else is pretty smooth in comparison!” Brandie told us after their straight sets triumph. “I’m still taking it seriously though, which I’m really enjoying.”

With two wins out of two already Brandie is now bubbling with confidence as she secured a stunning win over the Italians who, let’s not forget, were at the Olympics.

“I think to have that country quota game and to win it was a big boost for confidence and it’s allowed me to be hungrier and expect more of myself,” she said. “I wasn’t lacking confidence before, it was just because it was a new team and the win just boosted it.”

For Heather she was just pleased to play a ‘normal game’ after all the hype of the country quota playoff.

“It’s a nice feeling to just refocus on each match and the rest of the tournament and it helps that Brandie is playing great!” she told us. “I saw the potential was there and I know what a great athlete she is. It’s refreshing being in a different environment with her and together I think we’re playing well.”

Next up for Canada’s newest team on the block is a meeting with Germans Laboureur/Sude at 5.30pm on Thursday. Entry is free so if you’re in the area, why not get yourselves down to Polson Pier to catch the action?!
