Watch out…the Olympic champions are on a mission to get better
Yeah so the men in beach volleyball better run for cover…Brazilian Olympic gold medalist Bruno Schmidt says he and Alison Cerutti want to raise the level even higher!
The heroes from the Copacabana began their defense of their Swatch World Tour Finals title with a crushing win over Ranghieri/Carambula on Center Court at Polson Pier and their level of performance was as impressive as their efforts on home sand last month as they blew the Italians away in straight sets.
“We need to continue to improve and raise our level – that’s our plan for next season,” Bruno told us after the win.
Intimidating words from one of the best players in the world right there!
After the stress of winning Olympic gold at Rio, Bruno says the team are at the Swatch World Tour Finals in Toronto to have fun.
“We’ve come here to play, have fun and chill,” he said. “We worked so hard to prepare for the Olympics and it took a lot out of us. Now we just want to play and, like I’ve said 1,000 times before, have fun on the court.
“We’ve needed the last two weeks after Rio to recover so we’re not in the best shape but this is an important tournament with 12 of the best teams so we are grateful for the opportunity.”
So just to recap:
Alison/Bruno not in the best shape apparently;
And they want to raise the level of their performance even more.
Be afraid, be very afraid folks!
