What a day it was for the two Polish pairs on show at Polson Pier at the Swatch World Tour Finals. Two teams, two games, two wins – and now they’re both eyeing a place in an all-Polish final!

Bartosz Losiak and Piotr Kantor stunned Americans Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena in a breathtaking display to triumph in straight sets.

Now they want to go all the way to the final!

“It was a good result against a team that is in the top three in the world,” Bartosz told us afterwards. “It’s a big win and it’s good for Polish volleyball because for the first time in history two teams are playing in the Swatch World Tour Finals.

“It was nice to win and my partner played well. If we can keep that kind of form up we have a chance of reaching the semifinals or the final.”

The pair's reaction to the win on Twitter also made us chuckle, apologizing to their opponents!

There was another big result for Poland on Court 2 – just minutes after Kantor/Losiak’s victory came another fabulous result: Mariusz Prudel and Grzegorz Fijalek battered Rio bronze medalists Brouwer/Meeuwsen in straight sets.

“We’re now waiting for the Saturday games!” Mariusz told us. “It’s great to be here with the top teams and we’re hoping for a trophy after a long, hard season.”

“It’s exciting times,” said Grezgorz. “We’re very happy because we have a lot of Polish fans here in Toronto and we’re proud to have won against a top team.”

Both teams not only want to succeed here at Polson Pier but want to lead the charge of Poland in beach volleyball over the next few years.

“Volleyball is popular in Poland but I think beach volleyball will soon catch up in terms of popularity,” said Bartosz. “In the next two-to-three years we want it to become even bigger.”

“Poland is growing when it comes to beach volleyball,” added Mariusz. “We have a lot of good players and good facilities and hope in the next two years there’ll be more teams in the top 10.”

So what chance an all-Polish final? Stay tuned for the rest of the week to find out!
