Feast your eyes on these knockout clashes
The women’s pool play is done…bring on the elimination rounds!
And what a line-up of matches we’ve got as the tournament goes into its exciting knockout mode.
The teams that topped the pools advanced immediately to the quarterfinals, while the teams who finished second and third were placed in the draw for the round of 16.
The clash of the day following the draw is undoubtedly Canadians Bansley/Wilkerson against Olympic champs Ludwig/Walkenhorst. The winners of that match will meet Walsh Jennings/Ross in the quarters!
It’s Gallay/Klug versus Menegatti/Giombini with the winners facing last year’s Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals champions Larissa/Talita in the last eight.
German girls Laboureur/Sude, who ended the day with an excellent win over Bansley/Wilkerson, go straight through to the quarterfinals and they will meet the winners of the match between Forrer/Vergé-Dépré and Canadians Broder/Valjas.
Spain’s Liliana/Elsa face Bawden/Clancy with the prize a place in the quarterfinals against Heidrich/Zumkehr who won both of their games including the stunning victory over Ludwig/Walkenhorst.
The last 16 matches get under way at 11.30am before the remaining eight teams battle for a place in Saturday’s semifinals which begin at 4pm.
