Dear Beach Volleyball Community

So far, we only knew a scenario like the current one from the fiction of various apocalypse movies. In reality, of course, none of us really have any idea how to deal with it. Only one thing unites us in this challenging time: the certainty that we have to put down everything that is not directly related to the elimination of the virus. A logical conclusion that, however, has a dramatic impact on all of us.

Experts are now predicting that the pandemic will peak in July and August. And that, in turn, means for us that currently, nobody can assume the responsibility to approach the implementation of the planned events with a clear conscience and with full conviction. After extensive discussions with the International Federation, our sponsors as well as partners and representatives from the cities of Vienna and Hamburg, we decided to cancel the two Major tournaments. And we can no longer contribute to the upgrade of the event in Gstaad.

We are sad to announce this decision. At the moment, we only have hope that the global crisis will soon subside and be under control. Then we will start the work to realize our events in 2021 with full energy and unwavering commitment.

My thanks go to everyone who has shared and supported our enthusiasm for beach volleyball over the past 25 years. I firmly believe that we will be able to provide proof of our subline again next year:

Awesome Alison/Bruno earn all-Brazilian final

Brazil v Brazil in the #TorontoFinals

It will be Brazil versus Brazil in the men’s final of the Swatch World Tour Finals as Olympic gold medal heroes Alison/Bruno brushed aside home favorites Saxton/Schalk in a quickfire semifinal.

It only took the brilliant South Americans 40 minutes to sink Saxton/Schalk in another flawless display on the Polson Pier Center Court.

Backed by a passionate crowd, the Canadians were unlucky not to level in a tight second set but Alison/Bruno’s class shone through as the sun came out on the banks of Lake Ontario.

The victory meant the Olympic champs will take on countrymen and Gstaad Major gold medalists Pedro Solberg/Evandro in the final after they stunned Americans Hyden/Bourne in straight sets.

“Following the performances this season I think we deserve an all-Brazilian final,” Bruno told us afterwards.

For losing semifinalists all is not lost! Ben and Chaim have a bronze medal to fight for – and the prospect of earning a place on the podium at Polson Pier is important to the duo.

“The crowd have been amazing all week and we will give it all we’ve got to get bronze,” said Chaim. “The support helps a lot and we’ll try and keep it going.”

The bronze medal match between Saxton/Schalk and Hyden/Bourne will take place at 1.45pm on Center Court before the grand finale between both Brazilian teams follows at 3pm.

It promises to be an incredible climax to a wonderful week – so make sure you join us for live coverage on our website and social media!
