Nadine Zumkehr and Joana Heidrich were one of the teams closest to the top eight automatic qualifiers for the season finale and were given a wildcard entry following a fine 2015/16 season.

Their sole gold medal this year came at the Sochi Open in May but the duo disappointed on their appearance on home sand at the Gstaad Major, finishing 25th.

However, the team roared back to form, claiming silver at the A1 Major Klagenfurt shortly before the Olympic Games where they went onto reach the quarterfinals.

Fun fact! Before the A1 Major Klagenfurt, no Swiss women’s team had ever won a medal at the capital of beach volleyball. But Heidrich/Zumkehr went onto win silver while Hüberli/Betschart claimed bronze.
