It’s the best tournament says defending champion
Brazilian superstar Talita Antunes gave the Swatch World Tour Finals a massive thumbs up after she and Larissa Franca beat local heroes Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas on Center Court.
The defending champions, who reigned supreme in Fort Lauderdale last year, got off to the best possible start with a straight sets victory against the Canadians and Talita was delighted to be back to go for gold again.
“It’s the best tournament, it’s got the best 12 teams and it’s tough,” she told us. “We’re happy to be back and play the Swatch World Tour Finals and I have to congratulate the promoters for doing such a good job.
“It’s important for all the players and I think all the teams look towards this competition when the season starts. Everyone is looking towards the big finals and now we’re here we will fight all the way in the tournament to try and win first place again.”
After coming so close to a medal on home sand at the Rio Olympics, Talita is looking forward to a tournament without the intense pressure like there was in Brazil.
“Yes for sure there’s less pressure on us but we’re always looking to reach the final of any competition,” she said. “It wasn’t the result we wanted but we were still the fourth best team and I think we did a good job.”
